My path wasn't always about walking routes. Back in 2008, I
finished my Environmental Management degree at University of
Limerick and spent three years doing conservation work with
the Irish Wildlife Trust. That's what I thought I'd do —
protect habitats, manage woodlands, that sort of thing.
But in 2010, everything shifted. I volunteered with a
community group in Kilkenny working with older adults, and
honestly, it changed my perspective entirely. I watched people
light up when they discovered a safe, well-marked trail they
could actually walk without worry. I saw how the right
guidance made them feel independent again, confident to
explore outdoors. That's when I realized — conservation means
nothing if people can't safely experience it.
So I pivoted. I spent the next 16 years doing what I do now:
walking routes myself, documenting every detail, understanding
what matters to mature walkers — pacing, surface quality, rest
spots, accessibility. I've personally walked and tested over
200 routes across Kilkenny and the southeast. I got certified
in senior activity coordination and accessible tourism because
I wanted to get this right.
At varideskreviews Limited, I lead the outdoor leisure division. My
job is straightforward: create guides that actually help
people. Real information from real fieldwork. No generic
marketing copy. Just routes I've tested, information I've
verified, and honest advice about what works for active
seniors.
